Pre-Conference Activities

The following sessions will be offered prior to the Lifesavers Conference in Orlando.


State CPS Coordinators Workshop

1 CEU credit
Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 • Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

This interactive session is for State Child Passenger Safety Coordinators to learn about the 2012 updates for the National CPS Curriculum, plans for rollout and promotion of the curriculum and to hear about NHTSA’s new CPS Campaign.

There is no fee for this session, but you must pre-register. You may register online at the same time as you register for the conference. If you register by fax or mail, check off the attendance box under the pre-conference workshops section on the form.

CPS Latest Technology Workshop (back to top)
2 CEU credits earned by attending workshop and completing an exhibit hall “passport”
Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 • Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Every year, child restraint manufacturers who exhibit at Lifesavers highlight their latest technology and products during this two-hour session. Time is divided equally among the presenters. This pre-conference session provides a snapshot of what attendees will find when they visit the manufacturers in their Exhibit Hall booths on Thursday and Friday and have their “Passports” stamped for 2 CEU credits. Attendees receive their passports at the conclusion of the afternoon session, get signatures from CR manufacturers and hold them in the event they are audited for re-certification.

Motorcycle Safety and Enforcement Training Workshop (back to top)
Qualifies for ongoing POST education credits
Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2012
This law enforcement training workshop was developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) to enhance officer knowledge of motorcycle laws and their role in reducing motorcycle crashes and resulting injuries and fatalities. It was developed for police officers by police officers to equip them with relevant and cogent information, and to complement existing training.

Enrollment is limited to 50 LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL. There is no registration fee; however, enrollment is limited to a first-come first-served basis. You must pre-register as there will be no on-site registration.

Safe Travel for All Children: Transporting Children
with Special Health Care Needs Training

Dates: Tuesday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 13, 2012
Location: Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital

A two-day training for child passenger safety technicians will be offered by the National Center for Safe Transportation of Children with Special Health Care Needs, Riley Hospital for Children.

Since enrollment is limited for this course, early registration is recommended. The fee for this course is $200, payable to Indiana University.

What's Next for Traffic Incident and Event Management? (back to top)

Wednesday evening "getting to know you" session: Traffic Incident Management and Planned Special Events join the Lifesavers Conference for the first time at the 2012 Conference. Before the meeting gets underway, meet others interested in hearing more about the future of TIM and PSE. To get the networking off to a good start, the session will begin with a TIM Network Update discussion of current topics as of the time of the conference. Just so we know how many people to expect, please let us know if you plan to join us at laurel.radow@dot.gov.
